Weekend Getaway 9 : Bordi Beach

Bordi beach - The beach is situated in the backdrop of tree orchards specially that of a fruit called CHIKOO. The beach is unspoiled and refreshing. Another best thing of this beach is that there is no artificial make-up unlike other famous beaches, it comes under the custody of ’’Woods preservation dept. of Maharashtra’’ hence it’s natural face is untouched. But here you won’t find white sand, the sands here are bit sticky and blackish, but then it is natural. Another best thing about the beach is that you can go inside the sea up to several kilometers and the water would be just waist high; as the slope is gradual hence it is one of the safest beach.

The best way to observe and inhale its beauty is to travel from Dahanu (A small town 130 KMs from Mumbai) to Bordi (15 Km from Dahanu) by the state-highway road alongside the stretch of the sea. You will find the sea adjacent to the road and the orchards & Chikoo trees alongside make the entire stretch a soothing inhalation of life.Bordi is on the boarder of Gujarat & Maharashtra, and just 10 KMs from here Gujarat states start with a town - Umargaon.

Rail Travel (from Boriwali) - 1.45Hrs.

Nearest Rly. Station - Gholwad or Dahanu

Road Travel (from Thane) - 145 KM - 3 Hrs.You can take western express highway from Mumbai (heading to Gujarat - Ahmedabad) - via Thane - Bhiwandi - Jawhar - Manor - and further. Take a state highway road from Manor heading towards Dahanu and it will take you directly to Bordi (around 40 KM). By road you can enjoy the picturesque orchards, trees and Chikoo gardens and from Dahanu to Bordi this quiet road becomes much beautiful alongside the sea.

If you simply enjoy getting away from the busy city life and love the open air, Bordi offers you all of that. Gholvad is famous for it’s chickoos like Nasik is to grapes, and you can purchase chickoos near Gholvad station. One of the resorts, Anand Resort is built around a Chickoo plantation. They even have a small open-air restaurant.

Choice of food is limited. There are several hotels and homes that serve food, but expect to serve them several hours of advance notice if you expect to eat at their place. There aren’t any big hotels in Bordi. You have small food outlets run by caterers and resort owners, and the offer simple food. You can get both veg and non-veg, and if meals are not a big deal, you will manage okay. There are many Parsi families in this town and some of them offer food and lodging in their large homes. While some of these Parsi places have a reputation for serving very good food, you have to give them several hours notice before you can grab a bite. Most of the places that served anything special need you to inform them early in the day, if you want to have dinner at that place. A minimal of 5 hours notice is expected! Power cuts are frequent - it may be advisable to stay at a hotel with a generator. There is a lot of electric load shedding that goes on during the day. Each day you will have around 6 hours with electric power, unless your resort has their own generator

Accommodation : There are several small resorts in Bordi. One of the best places to be is the MTDC Bordi Resort. Like most other MTDC resorts they have a monopoly on the best location - right on the beach. No other resort in Bordi is located on the beach.
