Weekend Getaway 9 : Bordi Beach

Bordi beach - The beach is situated in the backdrop of tree orchards specially that of a fruit called CHIKOO. The beach is unspoiled and refreshing. Another best thing of this beach is that there is no artificial make-up unlike other famous beaches, it comes under the custody of ’’Woods preservation dept. of Maharashtra’’ hence it’s natural face is untouched. But here you won’t find white sand, the sands here are bit sticky and blackish, but then it is natural. Another best thing about the beach is that you can go inside the sea up to several kilometers and the water would be just waist high; as the slope is gradual hence it is one of the safest beach.

The best way to observe and inhale its beauty is to travel from Dahanu (A small town 130 KMs from Mumbai) to Bordi (15 Km from Dahanu) by the state-highway road alongside the stretch of the sea. You will find the sea adjacent to the road and the orchards & Chikoo trees alongside make the entire stretch a soothing inhalation of life.Bordi is on the boarder of Gujarat & Maharashtra, and just 10 KMs from here Gujarat states start with a town - Umargaon.

Rail Travel (from Boriwali) - 1.45Hrs.

Nearest Rly. Station - Gholwad or Dahanu

Road Travel (from Thane) - 145 KM - 3 Hrs.You can take western express highway from Mumbai (heading to Gujarat - Ahmedabad) - via Thane - Bhiwandi - Jawhar - Manor - and further. Take a state highway road from Manor heading towards Dahanu and it will take you directly to Bordi (around 40 KM). By road you can enjoy the picturesque orchards, trees and Chikoo gardens and from Dahanu to Bordi this quiet road becomes much beautiful alongside the sea.

If you simply enjoy getting away from the busy city life and love the open air, Bordi offers you all of that. Gholvad is famous for it’s chickoos like Nasik is to grapes, and you can purchase chickoos near Gholvad station. One of the resorts, Anand Resort is built around a Chickoo plantation. They even have a small open-air restaurant.

Choice of food is limited. There are several hotels and homes that serve food, but expect to serve them several hours of advance notice if you expect to eat at their place. There aren’t any big hotels in Bordi. You have small food outlets run by caterers and resort owners, and the offer simple food. You can get both veg and non-veg, and if meals are not a big deal, you will manage okay. There are many Parsi families in this town and some of them offer food and lodging in their large homes. While some of these Parsi places have a reputation for serving very good food, you have to give them several hours notice before you can grab a bite. Most of the places that served anything special need you to inform them early in the day, if you want to have dinner at that place. A minimal of 5 hours notice is expected! Power cuts are frequent - it may be advisable to stay at a hotel with a generator. There is a lot of electric load shedding that goes on during the day. Each day you will have around 6 hours with electric power, unless your resort has their own generator

Accommodation : There are several small resorts in Bordi. One of the best places to be is the MTDC Bordi Resort. Like most other MTDC resorts they have a monopoly on the best location - right on the beach. No other resort in Bordi is located on the beach.

From Kalyan one can board a state transport bus going through Malshej Ghat. S.T. bus will drop you at Khubi Phata, from Khubi Phata its an hour walk to Khireshwar, the base village. Actual climbing is from Khireshwar to Tolar Khind (about 1 hour climbing. After Tolar Khind there is a rock patch. Precaution and easy steps see you through it. Once the rock patch is gone it is a simple walk up and down small hills to the caves. Harishchandragad is necessarily a two day trek , one can do the overnight stay in the caves, which are clean and well maintained

Carry ample amount of water from Khireshwar. After Khireshwar there are no water sources in the way till you get to the caves. U me aur Hum - lyrics

Aankhon ke piyale… patiyale ambaale
Ek goonta jo pee le, sala chadh jaaye sau maale,
Uss ne ghoor ke dekha toh..
Fadak fadak kuch fadka hai,
Mujko kachcha kha gayi,Chonka hai na tadka hai…
Pehli baar hua aisa,Dadhka nahi dil dhakda hai,
Joh dil dhakda hai, toh kuch lafda hai..Joh dil dhakda hai, toh kuch lafda hai (2)

Repeat : Uss ne ghoor ke dekha toh..........Dadhka nahi dil dhakda hai, (2)
Joh dil dhakda hai, toh kuch lafda hai..Joh dil dhakda hai, toh kuch lafda hai (2)

Zulmi zulmi raatein hai,Filmi filmi baatein hain,
Tare tod ke laoonga, haan…Saare yahi gaatein hai
Tu hai meri shayeri,Chori ki hai dayari
Sher tagde tagde hain,Chiddiya ghar se pakde hain
Oye… tu shaayer pe hasda hai(All people in the house everybody say now…)

Dil dhakda hai, toh kuch lafda haiOh yehDil dhakda hai, toh kuch lafda hai….. (2)

Ever since I saw your face… you’ve been filling up my days
Why you playing out to get, I love you yea yea yea…

Dil main dena aaya hoon,Taang doh usi khunty pe,
Khwab mein hi aa jaao,Raat ko hoon duty pe,
Din ke khwab mein aaeeye,Din mein sona hai jaaiye,
Lori gaane aaun kya,Kaun tu mein khwamekha,
Hey… hey dil mein dhoom dhamakda hai
Really got me going… you really got me going…
You really got me going… you really got me going…Oooooooooooo

Weekend getaway 6 : Karla caves

Karla Caves - Near Lonavala

Barely 20 kms away from the hillstation of Lonavla, is another Buddhist complex at Karla. These too, are first century structures, reached by a breathless climb up a small, steep hill. They typify Buddhist architecture in its Golden Age and contain a magnificent stone stupa. Sunlight streams in from a carved window falling precisely on the shrine. Inside, the pillars are carved with figures of men, women and elephants probably from ancient Buddhist lore, and the 2000-year-old teak wood ceiling is still intact. Outside is another pillar crowned with lions. This was an emblem of the Buddhist King Ashoka, now adopted by the Indian Government.

Wekend getaway 4 :Silent hill Resort - Manor

Silent Hills Resort

It is located at Manor , hardly 2 hours from andheri. Drive to the location from Mumbai is excellent.Situated close to the city yet far from the hustle and bustle. Makes you feel close to nature, and perfect to unwind on a weekend.A nice resort with a lots of liesure activities. Located by the riverside, is lush green during monsoons. All rooms have a balcony and good view of the Vaitarna river. Serene surroundings amidst thick greenery. Theres even a mini-treck within the resort to a 'point' where you can see confluence of 2 rivers. You can enjoy lazing in the hammock beside the river, and sipping morning tea from the balcony overlooking the forest and river. The rooms are well maintained ..clean ..spacious and the walkaways are a treat .. restuarant has got a garden cafe feel and although they dont serve non veg stuff and the bar is not that imanginative , it still holds with service and the plants around it ... it does not have a disco. The water slides and pool are fairly good and other facilities for kids such as the toy train are sure to please the familes. The only downside is the resaurant(pure-veg!!) and the service there.

Food is average.. with liberal doses of oil. Even the vegetarian fare lacks variety and is not too good . (May be they could get better ratings by changing the cook).

Overall A good one day picnic spot.

I say a little prayer for u

I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER - (Dionne Warwick)
The moment I wake up

Before I put on my makeup

I say a little prayer for you

While combing my hair, now

And wondering what dress to wear, now I say a little prayer for you

Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart

And I will love you Forever, forever, we never will part Oh,

how I'll love you Together, together,

that's how it must be To live without you

Would only be heartbreak for me

I run for the bus, dear

While riding I think of us, dear

I say a little prayer for you

At work, I just take time

And all through my coffee break-time I say a little prayer for you

Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart

And I will love you

Forever, forever we never will part Oh, how I'll love you

Together, together, that's how it must be To live without you

Would only be heartbreak for me
I say a little prayer for you (X2)

Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart

And I will love you Forever, forever

we never will part Oh, how I'll love you

Together, together, that's how it must be To live without you

Would only be heartbreak for me
My darling, believe me For me there is no one But you ....

Weekend Getaway 3 - Tarkarli Beach Haven

TaRKALI BEACH

A place for no news and no shoes, a place to grip hold the sand with bare-feet and throw ones body in to the sea and to fill the head with vast seascapes and red orbs of sun falling into the sea. The surf, sand, sun and the art of doing nothing, coupled with best mangoes and Malvani cuisine has been the magic mantra of this small laid back, out of the way coastal village.

Tarkarli, situated on the confluence of river Karli and Arabian sea, six kilometres from Malvan in Sindhudurg district is a perfect hideaway for a ‘I, me and myself’ kind of holiday. Virtually, a virgin beach with silver soft sands and pristine clear waters, Tarkarli is a haven for sun worshippers and has acquired international fame. Besides domestic tourists, international curiseliners like Hebridean Spirit has made this stunning beach a regular port of call.
Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) beach resort with ten Konkani style cottages is the perfect place to unwind.

Sea-food lover’s paradise, Malvani cuisine is typical and spicy just like the Malvani language. Bhangda, Surmai, Prawns, crabs or any other fish depending on the season, its always the fresh catch of the day. Chaitanya, a ‘hole in the wall’ eatery in Malvan market serves excellent seafood, generous helpings at reasonable prices.

Nothing beats being on the beach. But there is a backwater cruise you can do - go early in the morning if you want to see the dolphins . Be careful when going from the backwaters into the open sea - the waves are huge and can turn your boat over if you’re not careful. If you want to see a fort, to uptil Malvan, 6 kms, and take a ferry to the Sindhudurg fort out at sea.

Getting There: If you are planning to take a bus from Pune/Mumbai, Pune is definately the better option - during the day only state transport buses run from Mumbai and apart from the fact that they are not the most comfortable, they take ages to get anywhere.

All out of love - Air supply

"All Out Of Love" -Graham Russell, Clive Davis

I'm lying alone with my head on the phone

Thinking of you till it hurts

I know you hurt too ,but what else can we do

Tormented and torn apart

I wish I could carry your smile in my heart

For times when my life seems so low

It would make me believe what tomorrow could bring

When today doesn't really know, doesn't really know

(Chorus) I'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you

I know you were right,

believing for so longI'm all out of love, what am I without you

I can't be too late to say I was so wrong
I want you to come back and carry me home

Away from these long, lonely nights

I'm reaching for you, are you feeling it too?

does the feeling seem oh, so right?

And what would you say

if I called on you now

And said that I can't hold on?

There's no easy way, it gets harder each day

Please love me or I'll be gone, I'll be gone

(Chorus) Ooh, what are you thinking of

What are you thinking of

What are you thinking of

mujh mein bacha rehne de

Ab kahin jake mere dil ko ye
